What makes a great submission?
The best submissions come from people who:
- Share real experiences - Tell us what actually happened, not just theory
- Provide practical takeaways - Give people something they can use immediately
- Think cross-functionally - Help people understand how your work connects to other disciplines
- Encourage participation - Interactive sessions are more engaging than passive presentations
- Are honest about challenges - Both successes and failures make for valuable learning
Our ethos
To understand how we do things, take a look at the Submission Principles page, which includes videos from a previous conference info night.
Watch these videos!
The logistics and specific details may differ for Brisbane, but the principles around content and the thought process remain the same. There's still flexibility when you submit ideas.
The most important video
If you only watch one video, watch this at 1.5 or 2x speed!
This emphasizes the main points and includes updates from 2022, which still apply.

Tips for your submission
Be as detailed as possible in your submission. This will help you refine your idea, help the content curation team select your session, and allow people to decide they want to participate.
Don't worry about perfection. You can edit your session and adjust the idea before the event, so you've got more than one chance.
Interpret the brief widely. We encompass many fields and experiences. Draw from your unique perspective and pitch us your ideas.
New to public speaking? Don't let that stop you! We encourage first-time speakers and can provide support. Have a read of this blog post for a first-timer's view of presenting.
Travel and expenses
As we're focused on the local community, we don't expect people to travel from interstate or overseas to participate, although you're welcome if you choose to come. Signal Not Noise is an event with low registration prices, so we need to keep overheads low. Therefore, we generally do not reimburse travel and accommodation or pay a fee to session leaders/speakers.
Should I buy a ticket if I submit?
Yes. Don't miss out on early bird pricing or getting a ticket at all. If you're selected as a speaker, we'll refund your ticket.
Ready to submit?
Submissions will open approximately 4 months before the conference. We'll use a system called ConfEngine to receive submissions.
